"The brief of this project was to conceive, prepare, film and edit the film in a week, which was challenge enough except that I quickly realised that it would also mean waking up at 5am each morning and filming in the dark. I raised a fist at my foolish choices. I made lists of all the little stories I knew of, and asked people in town where I should go and what time they started to get ready. I fixed a to-the-minute filming schedule over a few mornings to capture as many vignettes as I could, not only including the urban metropolis of Wigtown but also the farms and industry surrounding it, as much a part of the town as what's inside.
This film is just a snippet of what goes on, and is an offering to honour all the people who get up before I do and make this place what it is."
