28th Jul 2018 – Eskdalemuir – Hunt For The Wilderpeople

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is charming and funny, it is a drama masquerading as a comedy about an unloved boy whom nobody wants until someone says, Yes, I’ll love him. Much of the humor comes from the child, who’s at once a pip and a gloriously expressive ambassador for the director Taika Waititi’s cleareyed take on human nature and movies. Mr. Waititi knows that we love to cry at sad and bad times, but he also knows that people in pain need to get on with their lives.

Director: Taika Waititi
Stars: Sam Neill, Julian Dennison, Rima Te Wiata

18th Aug 2018 – New Galloway Park – The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Big screen, beanbags, barbecue and popcorn in the park for our 2018 Movie in the Park.

Perks of being a Wallflower brings stinging humour and surprising tenderness – going beyond the typical coming-of-age drivel aimed at teens. Chbosky’s compassion for his characters is absent any hint of condescension. And that’s reflected in performances that leave the feeling you’ve seen something good and true.

Socially awkward teen Charlie (Logan Lerman) is a wallflower, always watching life from the sidelines. Free-spirited Sam (Emma Watson) and her stepbrother Patrick (Ezra Miller) become the influence that rescues Charlie from his deep insecurity and his depression over the suicide of a friend. In his first year, he learns a little about sex, drinking and drugs, and a lot about friendship.

Artsy, outsider and non-conformist this movie screams it’s OK to be who you are.

The two could not be more different – Sandra is a fish out of water next to her outspoken, serial dating, free-spirited sibling.
